The Fiscal Cliff: How does it affect you?

The term “Fiscal Cliff” was coined to refer to the convergence of several major events at the close of 2012. These events included the expiration of the “payroll tax holiday” and the two-percent reduction in employee paid Social Security tax, the expiration of the “Bush-era” federal income tax rates and large automatic spending cuts by the government.

On January 1, 2013 the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (ATRA) was passed by both houses of Congress and is expected to be signed by the President within days.

Key highlights of the ATRA include:

Continuation of the “Bush-era” income tax rates for individuals earning up to $400,000 and households earning up to $450,000. The rate for those exceeding these amounts will increase from 35 percent to 39.6 percent.

The act does not extend the “payroll tax holiday”, so employees Social Security tax rates will go from 4.2 percent back to 6.2 percent up to the 2013 taxable wage limit of $113,700.

ProPayroll has updated our systems to reflect these changes. All 2013 payrolls that have already been processed have had the proper Social Security tax withheld, and the federal income tax tables are now being updated.

Our team continues to monitor all regulatory changes and updates and stand ready to implement any changes required.

Use Your Paycard at a Gas Station Efficiently

The most efficient way to use your paycard at a gas station is to Prepay or Pay Inside instead of using it to pay at the pump. Signature transactions are always FREE transactions.

• Prepay: Go inside the gas station and prepay the amount you want to pay for gas. Your paycard will be charged for that amount only. Then pump your gas until your transaction is completed.

• Pay Inside: Press “Pay Inside” at the gas pump. Pump your gas and then go inside and pay for the amount of gas pumped. Your paycard will be charged for that amount only.

• Pay at the Pump: Not Recommended. When you “pay at the pump,” up to $76.00 will be put on hold on your paycard account. If you do not have the funds available on your paycard, your transaction will not be approved. After you finish pumping your gas, it takes a couple of days for the transaction to be reconciled by the merchant. After it is reconciled, if you used less than $76.00 (or the amount on hold), the amount not used will be released to your paycard account’s available balance. (MasterCard paycard cardholders must use as a Signature or PIN purchase, not as a “pay at the pump” purchase.)

Speed, going green, reducing paper costs, freeing up physical office space and avoiding shipping charges - these are the benefits of a paperless payroll system like ours.

Believe it or not, your payroll service provider doesn’t need to have an office in your neighborhood. This flat world we now live in is connected by fiber optics and allows ProPayroll to deliver service better than those suits who come knocking on company’s doors. No matter where you are in the United States, we are right next to you online 24/7/365 and available over the phone to help solve whatever problems or challenges that come your way.

The days of a full time administrator calculating time cards and counting minutes each pay period, relaying the information to the payroll company, then waiting for a shipment and then stuffing and stamping payroll checks can be a thing of the past. Direct deposits, digital reporting and real time processing are the future of payroll and we’re happy to deliver it TODAY!

Historically, outsourcing payroll has been a necessary evil for many companies focused on their core business and growing their bottom line, for they didn’t have the resources necessary to manage payroll responsibilities properly. Yet employers have been constantly frustrated because they’ve had to give up so much control to their payroll company.

ProPayroll’s model gives the employer complete control of their schedule. Want to save your payroll processing until Sunday evening after the kids are in bed and the household chores are done? Now you can. Tired of calling in or faxing your employees’ info on your payroll company’s strict deadlines instead of your own? Now you don’t have to! (Do people really still fax? Yes, we know they do, but they don’t have to!) ProPayroll isn’t the monster system that shoves you into their mold, nor are we the new guys on the street lacking knowledge, tools or experience. We’re right in the sweet spot and ready to serve you.

And now, processing payroll with us is lightening fast!

Plus, you get the benefits of having payroll tax accounts and compliance issues managed by us - the true industry professionals. The aggregate result for you = greater control, lower costs and trusted compliance all delivered via ProPayroll’s superior customer support.

(We’re sorry to poke too much fun at the faxers of the world. And hey, we still snail mail our holiday cards - because would you really ever print and post an ecard? We like our clients and want them to know it!)
